Organizational consulting rooted in clinical expertise, designed for the people and systems that carry your mission forward.

Consulting That Starts With How People Are Actually Doing

Most organizational consulting focuses on strategy, structure, and outcomes. That matters, but it often skips the question underneath: how are the people inside this system actually doing?

Lumara brings a clinical perspective to organizational work. We pay attention to how stress accumulates, how trust is built or eroded, and how the relational dynamics between staff, leadership, and the people you serve shape everything from retention to the quality of care your organization delivers.

We work with organizations navigating real complexity: leadership transitions, staff burnout, policy gaps, high turnover, or a growing disconnect between your stated mission and what people experience day to day. Our consulting is hands-on and collaborative. We work alongside leaders and teams to name what is not working, design solutions grounded in your actual capacity, and support the follow-through that moves insight into lasting change.

Who We Work With

We work with organizations committed to ethical leadership, staff well-being, and meaningful systemic change. This includes:

  • School districts, K-12 schools, and higher education institutions
  • Mental health clinics and behavioral health agencies
  • Nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and community-based groups
  • Healthcare teams and integrative wellness practices
  • Culturally specific and community-responsive organizations

Whether you are launching a new initiative, restructuring an existing program, or working through longstanding challenges that have resisted easy answers, we meet you where you are.

Consulting Services

We offer a range of services designed to address both the structural and human dimensions of organizational health. Every engagement is tailored to your organization’s goals, context, and capacity.

Supervision and Policy Consulting

We help organizations build supervision structures and internal policies that actually support the people using them. This includes reviewing current practices, identifying where gaps or inconsistencies create risk or confusion, and developing clear frameworks for accountability, staff development, and ethical decision-making.

Workshops and Trainings

We design and lead interactive trainings on topics including burnout prevention, stress physiology, cultural responsiveness, and staff well-being. Every training is grounded in current evidence and adapted to your team’s context, whether that is a single session for a department or a multi-part series woven into your professional development calendar.

Program and Curriculum Design

We work with leadership teams to develop or refine wellness programs, clinical training curricula, supervision structures, and onboarding systems. Our focus is on creating programs that reflect your organization’s values and are realistic for your people to sustain over time, not just impressive on paper.

Organizational Assessments

We conduct structured reviews of your organization’s practices, policies, culture, and internal dynamics. Assessments include stakeholder input, documentation review, and a clear written report with prioritized recommendations. You receive a roadmap, not just a diagnosis.

Systems Design for Staff Well-Being

We help organizations apply principles from stress science and psychological safety to everyday operations. This might look like redesigning meeting structures, adjusting workload distribution, building in check-ins that actually surface how staff are doing, or creating feedback loops between leadership and front-line teams. The goal is to make well-being part of how your organization runs, not something layered on top.

Ongoing Leadership Consultation.

For organizations seeking sustained partnership, we offer ongoing consultation with leaders and leadership teams. This provides continuity, accountability, and a trusted outside perspective as you navigate complex change over time. Many of our most meaningful engagements unfold across months, not weeks.

How We Work

Our consulting approach is:

  • Grounded in clinical training and an understanding of how psychological dynamics shape organizational life
  • Informed by research on stress, burnout, trust, and relational systems
  • Responsive to cultural context, identity, and equity
  • Focused on realistic, sustainable solutions designed for your actual capacity and constraints

We are not interested in quick fixes or generic frameworks. We work to understand the full picture, design with care, and stay engaged long enough to see change take hold.

Our Process

1. Initial Conversation We start by learning about your organization: its culture, priorities, and the specific challenges you are facing. This is a no-pressure conversation to determine whether we are the right fit and to begin understanding the scope of what you need.

2. Custom Proposal Based on what we learn, we develop a tailored consulting plan aligned with your goals, timeline, and budget. You will know exactly what the engagement includes before we begin.

3. Collaborative Partnership We work together through consistent engagement, honest feedback, and ongoing reflection. You are not handed a report and left to figure it out. We stay in the work with you.

Why Work With Lumara?

What sets Lumara apart is the integration of deep clinical expertise with real-world experience leading organizations from the inside.

Our founder brings over a decade of experience spanning clinical supervision, program development, training design, and systems-level leadership across university counseling centers, group practices, and community mental health settings. This means we understand organizations not as abstract systems, but as living environments shaped by the people inside them: their stress, their relationships, their capacity, and the gap between what an organization says it values and what staff actually experience.

We bring:

  • Clinical and supervisory depth that most organizational consultants lack
  • Specialized knowledge of burnout, stress physiology, and how these dynamics show up in workplace culture and decision-making
  • A commitment to cultural responsiveness, equity, and justice as foundational to every engagement, not an add-on
  • The ability to connect high-level organizational strategy with the human dynamics that determine whether change actually takes hold

Your Consultant

Dr. Joel Muller is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Illinois and founder of Lumara Integrative Health. His consulting work grows directly out of years spent building and leading clinical programs within university counseling centers, doctoral training sites, and community mental health organizations.

Before founding Lumara, Joel designed clinical training curricula, led supervision programs, and partnered with institutional leaders to address staffing challenges, organizational culture, and program sustainability. That hands-on leadership experience shapes every consulting engagement: he understands how mission-driven organizations function under real constraints, where systems break down, and where care for staff and care for the people they serve either reinforce or undermine each other.

His approach integrates trauma-informed practice, nervous system science, and relational leadership with a deep commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness. He consults the way he practices: collaboratively, with attention to complexity, and grounded in the conviction that sustainable change requires both structural clarity and genuine human care.
