Living with attention, memory, or executive functioning difficulties can be confusing and overwhelming. Many adults are unsure whether their struggles reflect ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic illness, or the cumulative effects of stress and environment. Adult ADHD testing can help bring clarity to patterns that have been difficult to understand or change.
At Lumara Integrative Health, I offer adult psychological evaluations designed to bring clarity. These assessments help identify how your brain is functioning, what is contributing to your symptoms, and which strategies, supports, or treatments may help.
While ADHD evaluation is the most common reason adults seek testing, these assessments can also address a range of concerns, including mood and anxiety difficulties, the cognitive effects of chronic illness or stress, and questions about memory, processing speed, or executive functioning.
Testing is available for adults 18 and older who reside in Illinois. Interviews occur by telehealth; formal testing occurs in person in Chicago.
What an Evaluation Helps Clarify
- Do I meet criteria for ADHD as an adult
- How do my attention, working memory, and executive skills compare to expectations
- How much are anxiety, depression, trauma, or chronic stress impacting my functioning
- What role might chronic illness, fatigue, or pain play
- What strategies or accommodations could help me function better
- What treatment direction makes the most sense
- How do my strengths contribute to the way I cope and adapt
Who This Service Is For
This evaluation may be a good fit if you:
- Have long struggled with focus, organization, or follow-through
- Have been wondering whether ADHD explains patterns you have struggled to change
- Live with chronic illness and notice changes in mental stamina or cognitive clarity
- Are preparing for graduate school or professional exams
- Want clarity to guide treatment, lifestyle decisions, or medical planning
- Need documentation to support workplace or academic accommodations
If you need evaluation specifically for legal proceedings or disability litigation, I may not be the best fit and can provide referrals.

What to Expect
1. Comprehensive Initial Consultation (120 Minutes)
We begin with a detailed clinical interview, completed via telehealth. This conversation explores:
- Current concerns and goals
- Medical and psychiatric history
- Family, developmental, and educational background
- Chronic illness and trauma histories
- Sleep, medication, and lifestyle factors
- Executive functioning in daily life
- Strengths, coping patterns, and lived experience
You will complete questionnaires beforehand so our time is focused and meaningful. With your permission, I may gather collateral information from previous providers or family members when needed.
2. In-Person Testing Sessions
Formal testing occurs in a quiet office setting. Most adults complete the assessment in either:
- One longer session
- Two shorter sessions (common for fatigue, pain, or sensory needs)
You do not need to prepare or study. These instruments are designed to understand natural patterns of attention, reasoning, working memory, and emotional functioning. Breaks are available and the pace is adjusted for comfort.
3. Scoring, Integration, and Report
After testing, I score all measures and integrate the data with your history and lived experience. This includes:
- Identifying patterns of strengths and vulnerabilities
- Understanding what factors contribute most to your challenges
- Distinguishing ADHD from anxiety, trauma, stress, illness, or burnout
- Developing personalized recommendations
You receive a comprehensive written report, typically 8 to 12 pages, that covers background and history, testing results, diagnostic impressions, and treatment recommendations. This report is yours to keep and can be shared with therapists, psychiatrists, primary care providers, employers, or academic institutions to support your next steps.
4. Feedback Appointment
We meet for a 60-minute feedback session to review your results in clear language. We explore:
- What the findings mean
- How your brain processes information
- What is contributing to the patterns you have noticed
- Treatment and lifestyle recommendations
- Possible workplace or academic supports
How Testing Can Help
Adults use evaluation results to:
- Clarify whether ADHD criteria are met
- Improve therapy, psychiatry, and medical planning
- Request workplace or academic accommodations
- Make informed decisions about workload and pacing
- Understand cognitive impacts of chronic illness, trauma, or stress
- Strengthen long-term resilience and self-awareness
Fees and Insurance
Psychological evaluations involve many hours of work outside the testing session, including clinical interviewing, testing, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback. Most of this work happens behind the scenes, which is why testing is billed separately from psychotherapy.
Billing and insurance details vary by plan, and many plans limit or do not cover psychological testing for adults. Please visit the Rates & Policies page for more information.
